Lawana strongly believes in the importance of the family unit and hopes to dedicate her efforts to strengthening them. She works from a family systemic perspective to heal relationships within the family dynamics. In all her clinical interests, she is most passionate about working with trauma as well as children and their families. 

Emphasis

Her therapeutic focus is in EMDR. She has been trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to enable her to help those who come with various forms of trauma, depression and anxiety disorders. She also incorporates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) when needed.  She is a Gottman Certified Couples Therapist as well. Both Lawana’s education and her family life have given her a head start as a therapist. Her down to earth and straight forward approach, mixed with her personable and compassionate nature, create a safe environment for individuals and families alike.

Credentials

Lawana is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). She received her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in their Family Studies Program before taking some time off the educational path to fulfilling her family pursuits.

Personal Life

Lawana is the mother of 6 children: 4 rambunctious boys and 2 amazing daughters with one beautiful granddaughter. She loves children and has served the children in her East Valley community for the past 20 years, including 10+ years in the Boy Scouts of America, focusing on Cub Scouts. Some of her interests include supporting her husband in his love of the outdoors, watching her children in their extra-curricular activities, world-wide travel, reading/learning new things, and college football.
